Homebuyers, this tip will save you hours of your time…
Some of you may already be implementing this step in your home searching process. For all the others out there, this may be so obvious, you’ll say to yourself, “Why didn’t I think of that before?”
Have you ever driven out to a home for sale only to discover it isn’t nearly as nice in person as the listing photos may have led you to believe? Or perhaps the home itself looks just fine, but you didn’t realize until you got there that it’s located across the street from a noisy traffic-filled intersection. How much time could have been saved had you known this in advance so you could have ruled out these properties before having them take up a precious Sunday!
And now, let me introduce you to your new best friend: Google Maps Street View.
You’ve used it before. But have you ever used Google Maps in conjunction with your home searching?
When I am looking for homes with my clients, before I recommend a property, I always input the address into the Google Maps Street View. This provides an outstanding perspective on a home, revealing details an agent may not necessarily be hiding, but certainly isn’t highlighting, in their listing.
The Google Maps Street View is great for showing you what the home itself looks like when it isn’t being professionally photographed, kind of like what an actor looks like without the makeup. It gives you a sense of the caliber of the other homes on the block and the integrity of the neighborhood. Flipping that street view around shows you what is situated across the street. Whoops! Right across the street from a freeway on-ramp? Pass! Looking for peace and quiet only to discover you’re across the way from an elementary school playground? Pass! While you enjoy the convenience of having a 7-Eleven nearby, you weren’t exactly wanting one right next door to you. Pass!
The next time you’re planning your Sunday itinerary to go look at homes with your agent, make sure either you or your agent cross-references the properties with Google Maps Street View first. You’ll eliminate undesirables while saving time and money on gas, and will ensure your day is much more productive and efficient, only checking out homes you know are fantastically situated in a spot that best suits your needs.
